Art

Art at Box Hill School

Art at Box Hill School is a very popular subject and enthusiastically pursued by our students. Much of the work produced is consistently executed to the highest standard and has contributed to the department's excellent reputation. The Art department consistently achieves 100% ‘A* to C’ at GCSE level and very high grades for A level and IB Visual Art. Each year our sixth form Art students successfully gain entrance onto Art College courses including St Martins, Chelsea, Wimbledon and Goldsmiths amongst others in recent years.

Students are encouraged to rigorously pursue their visual enquiries across a range of disciplines and materials supplemented by extensive and in-depth supporting studies in their sketch books and work journals. Our courses are structured to facilitate both individual expression and the development of ideas through physical competence, visual communication and Art historical awareness.

The department regularly organises visits to London Galleries and more specialised Art exhibitions as and when they are appropriate to student study. The creative faculty has previously arranged regular trips to Florence and Venice which were hugely popular and enjoyed by all.

Our teachers are all highly qualified, professionally trained artists and are totally dedicated and committed to the advancement of our students.

Key Stage 3

Key Stage 3 students attend regular lessons which cover a broad variety of projects designed to explore the formal element of Art and Design; including line, shape, colour, surface and texture. These projects nurture a student’s particular strengths and will prepare them for GCSE Art should they choose to study it.
