All current Year 12 and Year 13 students follow the IB Chemistry course at either Standard Level (SL) or Higher Level (HL). Both levels of course are examined at the end of Year 13 with three papers, which examine the students using a combination of multiple choice, structured, and data-based questions. In addition to the external examinations the students are required to submit several pieces of laboratory work. This work is worth approximately a quarter of their grade. Both SL and HL courses cover a wide range of content material. The Diploma Programme includes the essential principles of the subject but also, through selection of options, allows teachers some flexibility to tailor the course to meet the needs of their students.
