Mr John Banfield MA(Cantab), FEI

Chairman

John Banfield is Chairman of the Board of Governors and is also Chairman of the Remuneration Committee.

John worked 30 years for Mobil Oil Corporation latterly as Chairman Mobil Oil Co Ltd and Director Mobil Europe and then 10 years as Non Executive Director and Deputy Chairman of an NHS Trust.

In 2011 he was installed as Honorary Lay Canon of St. Christopher's Cathedral Bahrain.

 

 Mrs Annabel Agace MA (Cantab)

Annabel Agace's original career was as a chartered surveyor; she was a partner with Knight Frank, working with public sector clients across numerous agency, professional and consultancy projects.

Following a career break to bring up her children, since 2007 she has run Chalk Hill Contemporary Art, a gallery that occupies a part of her family's modernist home in Guildford from where she promotes the work of a number of contemporary British artists. She was a trustee for many years of The Lightbox in Woking and an Ambassador for Surrey Community Foundation. As a grants committee member of one of the Wates Foundation family charities, she gets to see a number of local and national charities and has developed an interest in the charitable sector where she helps to promote partnership between charities and local communities.

Annabel is a member of both the Estates Committee and Marketing & Development Committee.

Mr John Chalker, FRSA, FCSD

John Chalker is the creative designer and founder of the interior design company, The Fox Hut. He is particularly experienced in product, hospitality and commercial design and his career has encompassed the roles of Exhibition Designer at Leslie Gooday & Associates, Chief Designer at Heals Contracts and Design Director at TFL International.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers and Membership Adjudicator, a Freeman of the City of London, a Liveryman in the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers, former Vice Chairman of the British Contract Furnishing Association.

John’s ethos is to be open to any opportunity, to think outside the box, and his interests are photography, sport and all genres of music.

John is a member of the school's Estates Committee and the Risk, Management and Welfare Committee.

MR JIM EVANS

Jim has led a wide ranging career in financial services, working both as a practitioner and management consultant in the City and across the UK. A former partner at Ernst & Young, Jim currently provides management assistance to the banking industry on a self employed basis.

He is the immediate past chairman of Dorking RFC where, as part of the management team, he worked on incorporation and achieving charitable status for the Club. Additionally, as a resident of Mickleham, Jim is actively involved in a range of village activities.

Jim is a member of the school's Finance Committee.

Mrs Della Fallon

Della has a background in NHS leadership roles. She now has a portfolio of interests including being a non-executive director on an NHS foundation trust board, a first tier tribunal member, and an independent chair for postgraduate medical education training.

She lives in Surrey, has two daughters and enjoys walking and music.

Della is a member of the school's Risk Management and Welfare Committee.

Mr Ian Gomes

Ian Gomes is a chartered accountant who spent his professional career with KPMG UK, including 23 years as a partner, specialising in financial services and emerging markets. Ian is currently an independent director and audit committee chair of a UK bank and an AIM listed company.

Ian has two daughters and a son and lives in Cobham. He enjoys watching cricket and playing chess. 

 

 

 

Mr James Harman FCA

Chairman of the Finance Committee

James Harman is Chairman of the Finance Committee and sits on the Remuneration Committee.

James is Senior Partner of James Harman & Co, Chartered Accountants now in its 22nd year. He has held the posts of Deputy Secondary and Under Sheriff and Upper Bailiff of Southwark at the Old Bailey. He has also held various honorary positions in the City of London supporting the Lord Mayor, Sheriffs and Livery Companies.

He enjoys golf, tennis, and skiing, and is a member of the Garrick Club where he pursues interests of fine wine and dining.

MR TREVOR JOHNSON

Trevor Johnson is an investor and holds non-executive director roles in a number of companies that seek to use new technology to do worthwhile things better. He is a non-executive Director at Whizz Education and has over 10 years’ experience in the Education Technology sector.  He is excited by the opportunities to educate in ways that are flexible, cost effective and tailored to individual needs.

He has a unique skill set, gained from his background in the financial sector, including several years as Managing Director for E D F Man Asia, combined with his hands on experience in Ed-Tech. Trevor will be able to bring his experience and expertise to advise on future developments at the school while mitigating risk and promoting good governance.

Trevor sits on the Finance Committee and the Marketing and Development Committee.

Mr Terry Knight

Chairman of the Estates Committee

Terry Knight is Chairman of the Estates Committee and is responsible for overseeing the building programme and implementing the Five Year Plan; he also sits on the Finance Committee.

He is a retired Chartered Surveyor and was formerly Senior Partner of Weatherall Green & Smith, a firm of consultant chartered surveyors. He was Master of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Surveyors in 2004/05.

He is a Trustee of several other charities helping them with their property interests. In his spare time he plays golf.

 

Mrs Diana Malcolm-Green

Chair of the Marketing & Development Committee

As a public relations professional, Diana has specialised in luxury retail and has worked for such illustrious brands as Gucci, Chanel, Holland & Holland, Laura Ashley and the Goodwood Estate.

Now running her own business, Diana has a long term interest in the education sector. She enjoys walking, country and motoring sports but the best quality time is spent with family and friends.

She has been a member of Box Hill’s governing board since 2000 and is Chair of the Marketing and Development Committee.

Mrs Monica Pengilley

Chair of the Risk Management and Welfare Committee.

Monica Pengilley is a former member of staff at Box Hill School, working at the school from 2000 to 2011. She worked in a number of different roles, starting as a teacher of ICT and a Housemistress and ending on the Senior Leadership Team as Head of Sixth Form and IB co-ordinator. She retired in 2011, is married and has a son and two grandsons.

Monica also sits on the Education Committee.

 

Mrs Trish Savage

Trish lives in Dorking, is married and has one son.

She began her career in teaching, followed by various marketing and business roles for a large multinational pharmaceutical company.

She and her husband then utilised their combined skills to set up a healthcare magazine, digital publishing and events business, which they ran for 25 years. Their work was recognised with a special award from the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) for their service to the industry.

Following the sale of their company, Trish is kept busy with her consultancy business whilst making the most of free time by keeping fit, taking long walks in the country with the family’s dogs, and spending valuable time with friends and family.

 

 

 

Mr John Towers

Chair of the Education Committee

John Towers is Headmaster of Homefield Preparatory School in Sutton. He sits on the Academic Committee of the ISEB exam board and is an active Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. 

Prior to this John was Director of Education for Reach to Teach, a pioneering education charity working in tribal areas of India, where he continues his interest as a trustee. 

John has also been a head of a successful state school and a school improvement advisor for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

 

Mr Chris Townsend

Chris Townsend is the Headmaster of Felsted School in Essex (a Global Member of the Round Square), having previously been the Deputy Head there for five years.  Prior to that he was a Housemaster and Head of Boarding at Stowe School in Buckinghamshire, and was also a Housemaster at Dean Close School in Cheltenham. 

Chris is a keen sportsman, particularly Cricket (at which he represented Oxford) and Rugby.  As a teacher, his subject is Classics, although he has also taught Philosophy, History and Maths during his career. 

Chris is married to Melanie (an Assistant Head at Notley High School), and has two children (David and Lydia) who are both currently at Felsted.

Chris is a member of the Education Committee. 

Mr Paul Voller, FRSA

Paul Voller is a partner in the leading London law firm VWV. Paul specialises in charity law and has been advising independent schools for over 20 years. Paul is also a trustee of a children’s charity.

His interests include music, theatre and avoiding gardening.

Paul is a member of the school's Risk Management and Welfare Committee and provides the school with legal counsel.

 

Mrs Kirsten von Wedel LLB(Hons), MA

Round Square and Alumni Liaison

Kirsten von Wedel is the Governor responsible for Round Square and Alumni Liaison and she sits on the Education Committee.. She provides the school with legal counsel.

Kirsten is a solicitor with a keen interest in outdoor pursuits and international affairs. Her professional career has taken her through the City of London and out into the countryside where she looks after private clients.

She was a pupil at the School from 1991 to 1993 and Head Girl.
