Music

Our purpose-built Music School contains a recording studio and editing suite, recital room and a range of practice rooms of various sizes. It hosts a range of musical activities including:

Choir

The school choir performs at flag services, carol services and on other occasions throughout the year. The choir rehearses after school on Friday lunchtimes (1.00 - 1.30pm) and is open to all.

Chamber Choir

The Chamber Choir rehearse on Tuesday lunchtimes and perform pieces of serious classical music e.g. Vivaldi’s Gloria, Mozart’s Requiem and Schubert’s Mass in G. Membership of this group is by audition. Each year they give 2 performances.

Rock Band

Students can take part in organised Rock groups on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Of course it is possible to rehearse at other times as well! There are a number of events through the year, but the highlight is “Rock Night”. This takes place at the end of the Spring term.

Junior Rock Band

Like the other Rock Bands but for Years 7-9. They rehearse on Thursday afternoons.

String Group

Lead by our violin teacher, this ensemble rehearses on Monday after school.

Wind and Brass Group

Lead by our brass teacher, this ensemble rehearses on Friday after school.

MUSIC TECHNOLOGY

This is a group run by our Music Tech Specialist, Mr. Rayner. The department is equipped with over 20 Apple iMacs running Sibelius, Cubase VST and Garage Band. We also have a Professional Recording Studio. Students learn to compose, arrange and record using the very latest technology. This Group meets on Friday afternoons.

The music department also works alongside the other performing arts departments in the school, most notably the two annual school drama productions.

Senior Production.

This is an annual production including the talents of Years 10-13.  Auditions normally take place at the start of the Autumn term and rehearsals are intensive right up until the performances in late November.

Some recent performances have been Little Shop of Horrors, Cabaret and The Great Gatsby.

Junior Production.

Although not strictly a musical, this production by the Drama department usually contains some musical elements and many opportunities for singing.
