Overview

The ‘A’ Level programme

A levels offer a chance for early specialisation for students who have already a firm understanding of what subjects they wish to study at university, or which career path they would like to follow. The programme is specially tailored to the needs of students who may favour certain combinations of subjects, such as maths and sciences, or creative arts.

Normally a minimum of 5 passes at GCSE level 4 or above is required for entry into the 6th form. In addition, a level 5 at GCSE is normally required for specialist subject areas such as A level or IB Higher Level subjects. Teachers would recommend a minimum of a level 6 in Science and Maths subjects. At Box Hill School we aim to personalise the learning experience and consideration will be given to students who fall outside of these criteria. All entry decisions are taken in the best interests of students and consider the student’s ability to access the post-16 curriculum.

A levels at Box Hill School are academically challenging and are part of our overarching spirit of holistic education, substantially adding value to the standard post-16 route to university and providing candidates with a wide and extensive range of opportunities.

The A level Programme therefore gives you a similar range of advantages as the IB at Box Hill School:

  • The grounding for a life in a specialist area that a student is already passionate about
  • A requirement of involvement and action in all
  • Things sport, community, world, and environment.
  • A genuine understanding and appreciation of team ethics, and lasting friendships that will span the globe.
  • A complete programme of study, community and experience.
  • A focused learning journey with a necessity for specialist study.
  • An education respected by universities and employers.
