World Book Day enthusiasm filled Box Hill School last week, with a school-wide game of live-action Cluedo, focused on the murder of literary boarding school pupil, Harry Potter. As with traditional Cluedo, three cards containing the name of the murderer, weapon and location were sealed away for Friday’s denouement; the rest being placed in circulation amongst the staff and obtainable by students upon the correct answer to a book-related question. Eighteen members of staff were identified as suspects, and with 10 possible weapons and 12 possible locations, the only question on anyone’s lips last week was “Do you know anything about the murder of Harry Potter?”.
The mystery was concluded on Friday lunchtime as a group of brave students accompanied Sebastian Rabau of the Yard (pictured) and his able side-kick Dr Alex “The Mighty” Quinn to apprehend the murderous Guardian of Activities, with the Blood Red Book, in the Dining Room.

Severe snow storms forced Box Hill School to close for a few days last week, although our in-house IT system meant that students could still access work from home! However it wasn't all work for our boarders, who could be found out on the back lawn happily building an igloo, with the aid of a couple of the teachers. The igloo was functional as well as attractive, and the students spent 2 nights sleeping inside it, wrapped up in clothes designed for the Antarctic, to make sure they stayed warm!

History pupils at Box Hill School saw in the end of Autumn term with a bang, as fully costumed first world war experts Timothy Richardson and Craig Appleton staged a World War One re-enactment on the back lawn. The pupils learnt about life in the trenches, the impact of the war on life in Surrey, tactics, weaponry and routines, and were able to handle various props from the era. The pupils were then thrilled by a demonstration (using blank rounds!) of World War One weaponry.
The re-enactment was part of a series of events staged by the History department in the Autumn term, others including a visit to Auschwitz and also a castle building competition for Year 7's.
